Paul Eggleton 346784b24b devtool: runqemu: avoid recipe parse
We only need the base configuration to get the variable values we want
to get here, there's no need to parse recipes / load the cache.

Paul Eggleton 6c0066c145 devtool: add search command
Adds a subcommand to search to find the target recipe name providing
some file or capability. This is implemented by searching on recipe
name, package name, description, package contents (file names), and
runtime file provides. For example:

$ devtool search libGL
mesa

$ devtool search X11
xextproto
libxxf86vm
xf86driproto
xf86vidmodeproto
libxfixes
xproto
libx11
...

$ devtool search /bin/sed
busybox
sed

This is particularly useful within the extensible SDK but is also made
available in devtool alongside the build system.

Note of course that because this searches pkgdata, useful results depend
upon do_packagedata(_setscene) having executed for the recipe being
searched for.

Paul Eggleton 0613301c88 devtool: add basic means of running runqemu within the extensible SDK
We ship the runqemu script and if we build QEMU itself within the
extensible SDK, then it would be nice to be able to run it. This is a
very thin wrapper around runqemu, supplying the machine and image name
so the user doesn't need to. (This subcommand is only available within
the extensible SDK since it only really makes sense there where it is
otherwise hard to run runqemu directly.)

Implements [YOCTO #6657].

Paul Eggleton c4181c6e7e devtool / recipetool: add handling for binary-only packages
Add a means of creating recipes for package files or archives that
contain a directory structure to be installed verbatim, for example an
rpm file. (We mostly just re-use bin_package here and skip some of the
normal build system checks.) This support is available in "recipetool
create" and "devtool add" which wraps the former.

Paul Eggleton 76084cdfa6 devtool: build-image: delete bbappend at end of build
Upon further reflection, it seems to me that this bbappend ought to just
be deleted at the end of the build. This keeps things simple; you never
have to remember to delete any files to get back to where you were
before with the image. This means we can also drop the slightly awkward
message reminding the user how to do that. I've also updated the test to
look at the image manifest to determine if the command has worked
instead of looking for the (now deleted) bbappend.

Paul Eggleton 210d959023 recipetool: create: fix handling of URIs containing #
The # character in a URI denotes a fragment; we don't care about this
since it is never supposed to be sent to the server, so remove it from
the URI before actually trying to fetch it or use it in SRC_URI within
the recipe.

(This has come up because download links on pypi.python.org seem to have
a fragment containing the md5sum of the download; without stripping this
off the fetcher will choke on it.)

When we were adding a recipe for software that would typically be built
in the same directory as the source, we were always using a separate
build directory unless the user explicitly specified not to, leading to
errors for software that doesn't expect to be built that way (such as
Python modules using distutils). Split out the code that makes this
determination automatically from the "devtool modify" and "devtool

then the additional call to buildtools environment setup, extension of

bash is happy to expand wildcards in the target of a redirection, but
bash running in POSIX sh mode won't (although it apparently does work on

Paul Eggleton d14ffaf6a3 classes/buildhistory: add build result to commit message
We have the command in the commit message, we might as well have the
build result as well (succeeded/failed and whether or not it was
interrupted by the user). The interrupted part relies upon a change to
BitBake to extend the BuildCompleted event to include an attribute for
that, but will not fail if the attribute is not present.

Avoid an error when attempting to remove previous data if it's not a

a buildhistory_emit_pkghistory_append which writes additional files at

Paul Eggleton 846cb34afa classes/buildhistory: fix permissions in package file listing
If we want the correct file permissions to show up here as they would on
the target, we need to run the command under pseudo. Normally we'd set
the fakeroot varflag on the function and that would be enough, but it
turns out that setting fakeroot on a non-task function that you execute
using bb.build.exec_func() isn't working at the moment. Work around this
by simply using FAKEROOTENV and FAKEROOTCMD. Unfortunately that means we
have to duplicate the command for the two cases but I couldn't find a
better means of doing that that actually works.

Paul Eggleton 9253e927d7 lib/oe/patch: handle patches that delete files with older git
When running "git add" on a directory with older git versions, deleted
files aren't added to what is to be committed unless you explicitly
specify the -A option. The result of this is that when applying a patch
from a recipe which doesn't apply with "git am" (and we fall back to
applying the patch through other means then "git add" following by
a "git commit") these deletes weren't committed with the patch, leaving
them sitting deleted but not committed at the end.

This should fix test_devtool_modify_native (which unwittingly exercises
this scenario by attempting to run "devtool modify" on apt-native) on
machines with older git versions.

Paul Eggleton a3967e2ba5 bitbake: bitbake-layers: fix mapping files to layers
bitbake-layers needs to map recipe and class files to the layer they
came from within the show-recipes and show-overlayed commands. However,
it turns out that mapping a file to the layer it came from is not as
trivial as it might seem. To do it properly we need to match the path to
an entry in BBFILES then map that to the collection name using
BBFILE_PATTERN, then map that to the actual layer using variable
history. If it doesn't match any entry in BBFILES, then we can fall back
to BBFILE_PATTERN (to handle classes and conf files).

This fixes the layer name not showing up properly in the output of the
show-recipes and show-overlayed commands for recipes in layers such as
meta-intel that have subdirectories in BBFILE_PATTERN. It also fixes the
priority not showing up in show-layers for such layers.

As part of this I've added a function to VariableHistory which for a
space-separated list variable gives you a dict mapping the items added
to the files in which they were added. I've also fixed
bb.utils.get_file_layer() and reduced some of the duplication by using
this function in bitbake-layers. Also fixes the priority not showing up
for layers such as meta-intel

Unfortunately we were acting on inotify notifications about any files
changing within the watched directories, not just the ones we actually

watched, and we write things like bitbake.lock and
bitbake-cookerdaemon.log to that directory, hence effectively
notifications were being tripped on every bitbake invocation. To avoid
this, record which file/subdirectory we're interested in against each
watched directory so we can ignore any events for files/subdirectories
we don't care about.

Additionally, if we move up to the parent dir, ensure we haven't already
seen it before adding a watch on it (we were previously calling

* Fix build test to actually check if the file was created as part of

* Fix wic test to actually check the output to find the name of the

These tests were _deleting_ meta-intel if it happened to appear under
COREBASE, which could have been catastrophic if there was any work in
progress in that directory. It turns out we don't even need meta-intel,
but we do need a machine that's set up appropriately (e.g.
genericx86-64). Tests that involve layers outside of OE-Core don't
really belong in OE-Core, and genericx86-64 is in meta-yocto-bsp;
however we will soon have the capability to have selftest tests in other
layers, so remove this here so we can add a fixed version in

Paul Eggleton 7f9b42a90f oeqa/utils/qemurunner: avoid blocking on stty when running under oe-selftest
runqemu-internal runs stty to return the terminal to its previous state
in case QEMU hasn't done that properly (which it at least used to do
when it crashed). For some reason I have yet to determine, stty blocks
(on tcsetattr() according to gdb) when run within QemuRunner() under
oe-selftest, with the result that we always wait until the timeout and
then we kill the script, which adds an extra delay after QEMU is
stopped. Naturally you would assume that this is something to do with
the nature of the terminal under which it is being run; however no
amount of playing around with stdin/stdout/stderr seemed to fix the
issue, apart from passing in subprocess.PIPE as stdin which makes stty
error out with "stty: standard input: Inappropriate ioctl for device". I
was also unable to come up with a reliable test for the terminal which
we could use inside runqemu-internal to avoid calling stty. For now, go
with the stdin=subprocess.PIPE workaround to at least avoid the delay
with minimal ill effect.

Paul Eggleton 4855ec380f oeqa/utils/qemurunner: fix logging
OE-Core commit 519e381278d40bdac79add340e4c0460a9f97e17 unfortunately
broke logging in two different ways:

1) it prevented logging to the task log from working within bitbake
-c testimage. This is due to the logger object being set up too early
which interferes with BitBake's own logging. If we prefix the name
with "BitBake." everything works (and we don't need to set the
   logging level).

2) Additionally because it called the log functions on the logging
module and not the logger object it set up, this caused the
oe-selftest logging to start printing everything from that point
   forward.

Fix these two issues and return us to the desired behaviour for
do_testimage.

Paul Eggleton d3809b77c4 bitbake: lib/bb: provide mechanism to bypass UI log suppression
The recent change to connect through the shell logging functions had an
unexpected side-effect - bb.error() and bb.fatal() cause a flag to be
set internally such that BitBake's UI will not print the full task log
on failure; unfortunately we have in places within the OpenEmbedded
metadata called these shell logging functions under error situations
where we still want to see the full log (i.e., the message we're sending
doesn't include the full error). Thus, provide a mechanism to fatally
exit with an error but unset the flag, utilising the built-in python
logging functionality that allows extra values to be passed in the log
record.

Paul Eggleton 757be608a5 classes/base: fix die() to print the full log
The recent change to connect through the shell logging functions caused
a regression - bb.error() and bb.fatal() cause a flag to be set
internally such that BitBake's UI will not print the full task log on
failure; unfortunately we have in a lot of places called die() or
bbfatal() within shell functions with a very terse message as a means of
exiting out, where we still want to see the full log (and we were
previously). We do still want to have fatal errors with proper messages
that don't result in the full log being printed, however we can't ignore
the typical usage of die(). Having added a mechanism to BitBake to log an
error and reset the flag, create a bbfatal_log() function that uses this
and call it from die() to restore the previous behaviour.

Paul Eggleton 2054b29dd7 devtool: deploy: fix preservation of symlinks and permissions/ownership
It turns out that scp can't be used to copy symlinks because it follows
them instead of copying them, and this is by design (since it emulates
rcp which also behaved this way); the unfortunate result is that
symlinks that point to valid files on the host translate into the host
file being copied to the target (yuck). The simplest alternative that
does not have this undesirable behaviour is to use tar and pipe it over
ssh.

At the same time, it would be even better if we properly reflect file
permissions and ownership on the target that have been established
within the pseudo environment. We can do this by executing the copy
process under pseudo, which turns out to be quite easy with access to
the pseudo environment set up by the build system.
